Fundamentals
- It has been proven that for the commercial cattlemen's profitability cowherd efficiency is twice as important as feedlot performance and four times more important than carcass traits. Said another way, PROFIT = 57% COWHERD, 29% FEEDLOT, 14% CARCASS.
  With this knowledge we guide our complete breeding program. We breed for reproductive and maternal superiority and let the rest fall into the window of acceptability. Pretty simple right? The cows that work for us tend to be easy fleshing 5 framed females, with adequate muscle and considerably more volume than average. We demand functional udders, sound feet and quiet demeanors. Cows need to look like females and the bulls look like bulls. A potential herd sire will always look like a bull well before he quits nursing. Hormone balance and Endocrine function plays a vital role in raising truly efficient cattle. With all the science (EPD's, Ratios, scans) we have available, I have discovered that the little things we don't have numbers for, are in reality what makes all the difference.
Focus
- Our disciplined breeding system is not about the quick fix. With the sires available to use any deficiency can be fixed with a single straw of semen (but you are likely to have several new problems to fix in the next generation). This is the law of unintended consequences. While other outfits continue to use the "latest and greatest" and real only travel in a circle fixing what was wrong with last year's "latest and greatest", we travel a straight line focused on the ideal, efficient beef production. Our straight line is a slow path, however the incremental improvements we make, are breed into the entire gene pool and fixed permanently into the population because of the limited bloodlines we use. We practice almost entirely, a closed herd breeding system to achieve the consistency and repeatability we desire.

- Never a member of the "Bull of the Month Club", how others choose to breed cattle has no bearing on our breeding program. As we stated, our goal is producing genetics geared to efficient beef production, and providing those building blocks for the commercial cattle industry. So often what is in style has little or no bearing on the bottom line, and we simple refuse to go down that road.
